Baby Shower Ideas

Are you pregnant and have blissfully sailed through the first two trimesters? Well now that you have stepped into the third trimester, your family and friends are gearing up for two things. The first, but of course is the baby. The next important thing which comes pretty close to the newborn is your baby shower.

Baby shower or Godh Bharai as its called traditionally in most parts of India is a ceremony which is held mostly in the final trimester which marks the last stage of pregnancy. In most cultures, it is to celebrate the unborn child and involves little celebration when family and friends get together for the last time before the arrival of the newborn.

It is also a time when the elders of the family come together to shower their blessings on the unborn child and share joyous and happy moments with the mom to be.

Why does one need a baby shower ?- If we had to put it in simple words.-It is to make the mom or the parents-to-be special. Make them relaxed so that they have some gala time with friends and family. Pregnancy can be an anxious and overwhelming time for parents to be. Organizing a baby shower for them is the best gift their friends and family can give.

Presenting some baby shower ideas :

If you are hosting a baby shower for your friend, then there is nothing better than setting up the baby shower at a nice salon. A mom-to-be would surely be surprised because nothing beats a pampering session. You can call a couple of your other friends also for this. What better than having all girlfriends for a spa or a lovely pamper time. Try to make a small outdoor arrangement for food and drinks as well. If booking a salon is not possible, you can invite a masseuse or technicians who are trained in manicure and pedicure and set up a similar theme in your home backyard as well.

A floral theme is very popular in India as well. The mom-to-be is made to wear floral jewelry designed by her mom or cousins. You can design different kinds of floral jewelry for the mom-to-be and even design the whole set-up accordingly. Select one flower and then you can design the entire theme as per it. That would mean having the place in exactly one hue of color. For example, if you chose lilies, then having cuisine around the same look and feel is a great idea.

If you are aware of the gender of your child, then having a theme based upon the gender of the baby is also a very great idea. Couples mostly go for pink for girls and blue for boys, but if you want you can keep a very neutral color for the arrival of the baby. These days there are loads of free printable available on Pinterest which can really make your job easier as far as designing and putting up decor for the D-day is concerned.

If you are in love with a certain character then your friends might just surprise you with the favorite character theme as well! So, how about a ‘HARRY POTTER’ theme for a baby shower? Sounds dreamy enough right.

We got a mom to share her experience of the ‘Harry Potter ‘ themed baby shower she had. Divya who was a banker back then was working till the last month of her pregnancy. She says that since it was the last month she badly wanted to rush back home so that she could start resting and of course eating! We all love pampering when we are pregnant- Right? Her husband is a photographer, and she had clearly specified she didn’t want a baby shower.

They agreed to that but said, there will be a maternity shoot to compensate for it.  She says that she knows the basics of photography and thus could make out that her husbandman was up to something else.

The D-day came and Divya was pleasantly surprised to see a hall decked up with everything including decor made up with Harry Potter theme. She said everything was hand-made except the cake Till this day Divya recalls this day as a memorable experience when her friends walked into the hallway one by one, as it was totally unexpected.

A baby shower is a joyous time for the mom-to-be. It is also the time when friends and family get -together before the baby finally arrives.

So mommies enjoy your baby shower to the fullest! Make the most of this time.
