If you are a mom , and if you love cooking , then engaging your preschooler in the kitchen is the best possible thing which you can come up with.
Many a times we end up having a rough time finding a balance between doing chores in the kitchen and finding time out for our little ones! But why not mix the two and make a fun time cooking in the kitchen only!
Most of you would give it second thoughts on this, but trust us, this is the best and most wise decision you can take . This ensures that the preschooler doesn’t miss out on any fun and you can also complete all the kitchen activities simultaneously.
Kids love experimenting and exploring new things around them. The kitchen can be a great learning center for kids who have just started to explore their surroundings. Today on the blog I will share some tips on how your little one can help you in cooking:
KEEP THEM INVOLVED RIGHT FROM BEGINNING
When we say keep them involved right from the beginning, it goes on to say, that involving them with the chores right from the initial stage of how food comes to our table is the right approach. If you have space within your home, you can start by having a kitchen garden. The process of sowing seeds and watching them germinating is sure to intrigue young minds and get them all excited .If you don’t have that much space, then you can still sow certain veggies like coriander, mint in pots and have a little green corner in your balcony or rooftop.
SHOP FOR GROCERIES AND VEGGIES WITH THEM
We often take children along when we have to shop for their clothes and other essential items. But why miss out on grocery shopping with them? These days , there are big marts for groceries as well as vegetables, and most of them are kid-friendly. You can just take your cart and let your child have a whale of a time as you see him picking his favorite fruits and vegetables. This way they get to know the entire process of how food reaches our home.
TEACH AS YOU PERFORM A CERTAIN TASK
This goes on to say for every single or miniscule task you perform while you are cooking. Say for example if you are kneading dough, then hand a little ball of dough also to your child, so that he learns how exactly flour turns into dough. Learning becomes super fun when the child is actually involved in doing activities rather than just by reading it. Thus in this way , they are honing new skills and at the same time you are quickly wrapping up all the chores.
HELP THEM IN MEMORIZING THE DIFFERENT PLACES IN THE KITCHEN
Your child can help you at the kitchen by passing on certain food items from one place to another only if they remember as to where different items are kept. Asking them to get the salt or sugar jar, or pulling out that veggie from the refrigerator is one of the ways in which you can make cooking fun for both yourself and for them.
